The coin photographed above is one of the finest 1866 Sydney Mint sovereigns I’ve seen in the last five years, and one of only three graded MS63 by PCGS (2/14). Despite PCGS having graded over 550 1866 Sydney Mint sovereigns and almost 1,300 Type II Sydney Mint sovereigns overall, none have been graded MS64 or finer and only seven have graded MS63 or MS63+.
