Perth copper proofs are generally very scarce in PR67RD, but it’s clear from the PCGS Population Report that some dates are scarcer than others. One of those dates is the 1961 penny in PCGS PR67RD. Like its counterparts from 1957 and 1958 - two dates that have sold very strongly in recent times - the 1961 penny in PR67RD is known by only a handful of examples. None have graded finer (7/14). So what’s it worth? Well, the 1957 penny in PR67RD is known by only four examples, and sold for $12,250 when it last hit the auction circuit in June 2013. There are seven 1958P pennies in PR67RD, and the last example sold in May 2014 for $6,500. This 1961 penny in PR67RD is known by only eight examples, so is clearly in the same ballpark as the 1958. I have priced this coin, photographed above, with that view in mind.
