1852 Type II Adelaide Pound - PCGS AU55

1852 Type II Adelaide Pound

Australia, 1852 Type II Adelaide Pound -

Adelaide Pounds have always been one of my favourite Australian coins. With a regal design, fascinating origin story, and low survival rate, the coin is popular with collectors and investors as well. The coin photographed above is an affordable example that was allegedly in an institutional hoard for many years. It is fresh and original, and free from the dipping or cleaning that bedevils so many collections today. Like many 1852 Adelaide Pounds, this coin is weakly struck. There is also a planchet flaw on the obverse at three o’clock that is hardly noticeable in hand, but is mentioned for accuracy; the coin is priced accordingly. An uncommon coin in this grade, and probably one of the most affordably-priced Adelaide Pounds on the market at the moment.

Grades PCGS AU55.
