If you collect PCGS-graded threepences, you’ll know just how hard it is to get a 1922/1 overdate threepence into a PCGS holder. Because the coins are generally in very low grade, most of them are rejected by PCGS for one fault or another (bent planchets, large edge knocks, field indentations, cleaning, and so on). To get a lower-grade 1922/1 overdate threepence into a holder is an achievement in itself. The coin photographed above is totally original, with attractively dark fields and even wear on both ‘verses. “Advance Australia” is totally readable, while the overdated numeral is bold and clear.
