Australia, 1861 Sydney Mint Sovereign -
Sydney Mint sovereigns have personally always been my favourite sovereign. The coin has a beautiful and classic reverse, while the obverse bears one of the Empire’s most attractive renditions of Queen Victoria, so when I acquired an example last year that looked to be mint state, I sent it off to PCGS straight away. As expected, the coin graded MS62, and is the equal-finest example assessed by them (3/21). Fully lustrous, bright, with practically full detail to the wreath and crown, it is certainly one of the nicest Sydney Mint sovereigns I’ve handled. It would make an ideal addition to a Sydney Mint sovereign collection, sovereign type set, or gold rarities accumulation, and with only five examples graded in this grade (and none finer), will always be coveted by collector and numismatic investor alike.
