Australia, New South Wales, 1813 Dump or Fifteen Pence -
It’s not every day I’m offered a quality 1813 Dump, so when a collector suggested we meet up for coffee in town one afternoon, I couldn’t say no. The coin turned out to be one of the nicer dumps to appear on the market in the under-$10,000 bracket. Overall, it’s a totally original coin, with deep, grey fields, good detailing to the crown, and great eye appeal. Parts of the host coin are visible on the obverse, where the strike was weak. On the reverse, “Fifteen Pence” is fully present. To top it all off, this example is the scarce D/2 type, to which only 25% of Dumps belong. Ex-Noble Numismatics sale 109, July 2015, where it sold for $10,733, ex-Ken Wilson Collection, ex-Spink and Son London. Scarce.
