Great Britain, 2017 Platinum Wedding Sovereign with fine edge milling -

Both the 2017 Platinum Wedding sovereign, released on the 20th November 2017, and the Sapphire Jubilee sovereign, issued in February 2017, are low-mintage issues, with just 750 pieces minted of each type. As the reverse and obverse of both coins are identical, some collectors consider the two issues to be the same coin with a rather more pedestrian mintage of 1,500 pieces. Fortunately—and it doesn’t appear to be widely known amongst collectors—the two coins were struck with different collars, allowing both issues to be uniquely identified, even when removed from their Royal Mint packaging. Just as important, buying either of these struck-on-the-day sovereigns is the only way to get the classic representation of St George and the Dragon on a 2017 sovereign. (The proof is of a different design, while the BU version has a privy mark.) Overall, both the Platinum Wedding and Sapphire Jubilee sovereigns are highly-collectable and underappreciated coins.
