The 1902-P sovereign has long been considered one of the key dates to the Edward VII sovereign series, and Perth mint sovereign series generally. Despite its inexplicably high population, the coin is scarce and hard to find, especially in grades better than PCGS MS62. Unlike later Perth Mint Edward VII sovereigns, the 1902-P sovereign is generally well-struck and pleasing in appearance, but it often lacks the full bloom and clean fields that Sydney sovereigns often exhibit. The coin photographed above is above average and scarce in this grade, and a good candidate for a sovereign type set or date run.
