Australia, 1929 Melbourne Sovereign -
Although the 1929M sovereign has a mintage of 436,938 pieces, the date is the rarest of the small head sovereigns, and one of the key dates in the George V sovereign series. Coins in PCGS MS64 can be considered world class rarities, with just two pieces certified in that grade by PCGS, while examples in PCGS MS63 are extremely difficult to obtain, as there are just five coins graded by PCGS in that grade, several of which are tightly-held in long-term sets. The example photographed above is one of the nicer examples we’ve handled in recent years, with clear fields, good strike, and fresh, uninterrupted lustre. If you’ve been chasing a high-quality small head for your type set or date set, this is your coin.
