The 1886M St George reverse sovereign is one of the more common dates of the young head sovereign series, but is known for its delicately-frosted effigy, undulant fields, and relatively sharp strike. Many coins have an almost proof-like appearance, and the fields can be suggestively cameo, too. On high-grade examples, hints of ghosting can be seen on both ’verses. Collectors seeking an example in PCGS MS64 for their type set would be hard-pressed to find a more affordable date in this grade. Equal-fourth finest graded by PCGS (6/20).
