Australia, 1969 Yarralumla PNC Fifty Cent -

There are a number of scarce decimal issues across the modern decimal series. Some are error coins (such as the 2000 one dollar mule), while others are varieties (such as the 2000 millennium incused flag fifty cent piece). The 1969 Yarralumla fifty cent falls into a third category: The special issue. Unlike the 1966 fifty cent, the 1969 fifty cent was neither round nor made of silver, so that year a company called Nuphil Associates Ltd made arrangements to include the new coin in one of its Philatelic Numismatic Covers. Two thousand examples were minted on special blanks, and of these about 1,330 were sealed into the PNC. The balance were sold singly or released into circulation. Today, the issue is widely collected and appeals to coin and stamp collectors alike. And with a maximum mintage of only 2,000 pieces (and fewer exist in problem-free condition), the issue is set to do well over time, in my view. Equal-finest graded by PCGS (4/16).

Grades PCGS SP66.
