Australia, 1924 Perth Sovereign -
There are a couple of underrated dates in the Perth sovereign series. Along with the 1911 and 1925 Perths, the 1924 Perth is a sleeper. It is scarcer than the “key” 1926-P, and harder than the 1899-P in PCGS MS62. It is frequently a gap in high-grade Perth sovereign collections, and is rare in MS64, in particular. In fact, I’ve only handled one 1924-P sovereign in MS64 since 2007, and perhaps a dozen in lower grades. Like most Perth sovereigns from George V, the reverse has ghostings of the obverse; these appear as dark, blotchy, undulant regions around the horse in the fields (and is the reason the effigy of George V was reduced in size in 1929). Overall, if you’re looking for a 1924-P sovereign that is in high grade but not prohibitively expensive (as an MS64 would be), this coin, photographed above, belongs in your set.
