LATEST NEWS
25/05/2009: New arrivals from PCGS.
We’ve got a lot of cheaper items in this lot, including 1954 zacs in PCGS MS66, 1961 and 1962 shillings graded PCGS MS66, various George VI florins in PCGS MS63 or better, threepences, pennies, and proofs. We’ll be listing these within the week.
12/05/2009: Gold down, but the coin market remains strong.
Spot gold has come down a bit since its March highs, and so too have the prices of our low to medium-end sovereigns. Generic Edward VII sovereigns are now available in Mint State from $450, while generic Mint State Veiled Head sovereigns are available from $495. If premium quality material is more your cup of tea, take a look at the RARE 1904 Melbourne Sovereign in PCGS MS64. This is a seriously underrated date, along with the 1904 Sydney and 1902 Perth. A lovely 1887 Melbourne Jubilee Sovereign has also been listed. On a side note, a very rare 1929 Melbourne Sovereign graded PCGS MS63 was put up on the site last week, but if you blinked, you would have missed it, because it sold the very next day. For a $7,000 coin to sell as quickly as hotcakes says something about the strength of the coin market at the moment. We can’t really say that about certain other markets at the moment, that’s for sure. Anyway, remember, about 25% of our stock sells before it even gets listed on the website, so be sure to send us your want list. Otherwise you might miss out!
15/04/2009: Introducing after hours service.
We understand the busy lives of our clients, and know how hard it is to get away from the job. So, from today onward, we invite you, our clients, to give us a call outside of standard business hours, from 18h00 to 22h00, if you have any inquiries regarding any of the items on our site. So, if you’re browsing our site after dinner one night and have a question about one of our coins, drop us a line. We’re happy to help!
10/04/2009: Very briefly...
It’s been a hectic couple of months. With coin fairs, client appointments, and club meetings to attend, we’ve hardly had time to update the content of our site. In any case, you’ll notice a new section for Decimal coins, which is already proving to be popular, despite the small range. We’re also getting a lot of inquiries for quality sovereigns, which appear to be hard to come by. Pre-decimal QEII proofs, the sleepers of the Australian series, in our opinion, are really starting to warm up, and we expect price levels for pre-55 proofs to continue their strong strides upward. There’s been talk that the coin market has been cool of late, but with a proof 1930 penny coming onto the market at a hot $2 million and coin auctions continuing to break records, it’s hard to see where the doomsayers are coming from. We’re confident that the coin market will weather the current climate well, and invite anyone interested in starting or expanding their collections to give us a call on 0421 229 821.
12/07/2008: Drake Sterling Numismatics features on SkyNews.
Yesterday, Drake Sterling’s proprietor featured on SkyNews in their hour-long business special Your Money, Your Call. Along with two other dealers, he fielded questions from the audience about coins’ investment potential over the long term. The evening was all a bit of fun, but it also brought the coin collecting community into the limelight. Unfortunately, copies are not available for download from the Drake Sterling website, but for a fee, SkyNews will provide personal-use copies on request. Please contact them on + 61 2 9886 8131 or send inquiries to Rachel Owen rowen@skynews.com.au.
